Of course I can rename the offending file as "old", and Secunia immediately gives me 100%, but I do not think that is the correct way to fix the problem. Here's the correct info; I repeated the whole procedure to be sure (the folders don't get emptied as stated before). At Programs and Features. 1. It sounds like you've got a bad installation, corrupt system files, or something wrong with the user account.
Renaming the file worked. Then I installed the vcredist_x64.exe and it added Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributible (x64) version 8.0.59192 to the list. For Windows XP/2003: Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. For Windows 7/2008: Click Windows Orb > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. He's right.
You can also try scanning for corrupt system files in Windows. I would just wipe and start over , no biggie.
May 26, 2016 Walter Glenn @jd2066: That is just about the craziest list I've seen. Most choose the latter, and that package is known as a Visual C++ Redistributable.
