So I got on the computer and opened Microsoft Word, and was able to duplicate the problem time after time but not every single time. The fix with deleting the Com add ins I tried before coming here did not work, this did. I had a hard time prying out of them that they'd even installed any updates between the time when my Add-in was working and when it stopped Thursday, November 02, see here

It is the fix that says to simply go to Control Panel and remove the "Works Suite Add-In For Microsoft Word".
